Good afternoon,

I hope everyone is staying warm today!  In class the children started off the day by recording our new weekly spelling words and working in their spelling books. They practiced sorting and organizing their new spelling words into groups based on a variety of characteristics.  During math we had a review period for tomorrow's math test.  We used the review sheets that went home over the weekend and discussed the questions and answers.  I believe that almost all of the students seem very prepared for tomorrow which is great!  In language we discussed a new language unit that the children are beginning.  We are starting a poetry unit.  In this unit, the children will be discussing poetry, looking at different types of poetry, and comparing poetry.  The children have each also been assigned a poem that they are to practice, practice, practice.  This poem will eventually be memorized and performed in front of our class, and then the winner will perform in front of the school!  The children also went to french and drama classes.

Homework:  Read for 15 minutes and record in the reading chart, practice weekly spelling words, study for math test, and practice reciting poem.

Important information:  The math review sheets are going back home with the students tonight in hopes that the children will use these to review for tomorrow's test.
The school poetry competition will be taking place on the 23rd of February.  This means our class has to have their poems memorized, rehearsed, presented in class and a winner chosen in just a few weeks!

Best regards,

Mrs. Nelson
