Good afternoon!

We had a great day today competing in the SJA Track and Field event.  It was a hot day, but all the children had a ton of fun competing in the various events.I have a few pictures posted at the end of this posting for you to enjoy.  Before we went out for the big event the children had their weekly spelling test, and worked on another chapter of their novel study.

Homework:  Read for 15 minutes and record in the reading chart, and re-write incorrect spelling words ten times each (including the bonus word if needed).

Important information:  All students brought home a Spelling Bee list with them last week.  Our school is going to be holding it's first school-wide spelling bee competition on June 12th.  Friends and families are welcome to attend to watch the competition on the 12th.  The list that the children have brought home is the exact list that will be used during the competition, so please use it to help your child study and prepare.  5 children are going to be selected from each class to compete in the whole-school competition on the 12th, so help make your child one of them!

Information for SJA Summer Camps are now available.  SJA offers a range of camps over the summer months with a variety of themes ranging from karate camps, to writing camps to traditional summer camps programs.  Please contact the school for more information about these exciting programs.

If your child is part of the SJA choir, please make sure they are practicing the choir song at home.  You can find the song lyrics athttp://www.stlyrics.com/lyrics/theparenttrap/doyoubelieveinmagic.htm and play the song for them at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GKyGyH9mWHk.  The choir's next performance is going to be at Arts Night on June 6th.

Good afternoon!
We had an amazing day today at the Peel Children's Water Festival!  The children really enjoyed themselves at the various events that all showcased the importance of water.  We saw various exhibits such as hypothesizing which objects float and which sink, exploring what happens to waste water, visuals of the amount of water on earth that is available for human consumption, water races, and a scavenger hunt.  There were many other activities we took part in as well.  Ask you child to tell you all about it tonight!  I have a few pictures posted at the end of this posting for you to enjoy.  When we returned to school the children went to French class.
Homework:  Read for 15 minutes and record in the reading chart, and practice weekly spelling words for tomorrow's spelling test.

Important information:  Tomorrow is the SJA Track and Field event.  This event is going to be held tomorrow afternoon exclusively outside.  The weather is going to be similar to today, so please make sure your children come to school wearing (or bringing) sunscreen, hats, sunglasses and water bottles for this outside event.  All students should come wearing their gym uniform tomorrow.  Friends and families are more than welcome to attend this fun event to watch the students compete.

Ms. Elliott's class is going to be selling freezies at the Track and Field event tomorrow for 50 cents.  If you would like your child to purchase a freezie, please send change with them.

Bonjour!

The big event of today was the SJA Science Fair!  This was a great event that all the students at SJA had a great time preparing for and participating in.   Thank you very much to all of the friends and families that came out to see the students' presentations.  Our class spent a majority of the day planning and preparing for the Science Fair.  We finished our presentation board, completed our experiment conclusions, created reflections regarding what was learned about water conservation, and presented our findings to a panel of judges.  Today was a great deal of fun!   During language today the students completed their final Ontario Writing Assessment.  This final assessment piece will now be used as a comparison against the previous two pieces they completed this school year to give a picture of how their writing has improved this school year.  Ask your child tonight to tell you what they wrote about.  The students also worked on cursive, and had a 'catch-up' period for their novel study booklets.

Homework:  Read for 15 minutes and record in the reading chart, and practice weekly spelling words.

Important information:  Our class is heading out on a field trip to the Peel Children's Water Festival tomorrow.  On this trip we will be learning about water and our environment, and how humans need to be careful in the ways we use and treat water.  Please note that we are going to be exclusively outside for the entire day tomorrow so please check the weather forecast in the morning.  Please make sure your children dress accordingly (sun screen, hats, umbrellas, etc.)  Lunches are to be brought with us on the trip.  The students are encouraged to bring a 'litter-less' lunch.  Students should come wearing their SJA gym uniforms.  A bus is coming to the school to pick us up at 9am sharp and dropping us back off at 2:15pm.  If children are not here at 9am they will have to remain at the school for the day as the bus will have left. For more information about the water festival please visit their website  http://www.peelregion.ca/pw/chwaterfest/ .

Happy Monday!

I hope everyone had an enjoyable Victoria Day long weekend!  The weather was lovely, which really helped make it special!

We started off the day today by copying down the new weekly spelling words and working in our spelling workbooks.  The grade ones worked on words with 'sh' or 'ch' in them, where the grade twos worked on words with 'ou', 'oi' or 'ow' in them.   In our unit of inquiry the children conducted their science experiment on water conservation.  The students had previously created their question and hypothesis, and then as a class today we went and tested how much water is collected from a tap that drips for 5 hours.  The experiment was a lot of fun and the children did a great job with their observations and conclusions.  After we collected water for 5 hours, we brought the collected water outside and used it to water the garden out front.  Our results and our class science fair board will all be displayed tomorrow during the SJA Science Fair.  Families and friends are encouraged to come and see the hard work the classes have been doing in their science units from 2 - 3pm tomorrow afternoon.  During language today we read another chapter of Winnie-the-Pooh, and the children worked on their chapter summaries in their novel study groups.  Now that both the grades ones and two have completed their Jump Math programs, both grades are now working on A Beka Math, which is our supplementary math program.  During math the children worked on temperature, word problems, and sums and differences.  The students also went to French and music classes.

Homework:  Read for 15 minutes and record in the reading chart, practice weekly spelling words,  Spelling Workbook pages 134 - 136 (grade one) 130 - 132 (grade two),  Cursive pages 227 - 229, and complete math worksheet (grade one and two).
