Good afternoon!

We had a great day today.  We started off the day by singing happy birthday to Jessica who celebrated a birthday today!  We then continued on and had our weekly spelling test and worked in the spelling books.  The student had a review of telling time, temperature and counting money in math today.  We had some time to practice our computer skills in the computer lab as well.  In history we read about Rome's war with Carthage and had a review of the important contributions that ancient Rome provided.  We also had a surprise poetry competition in today's class where the children were asked to recite their poem. Those children who have memorized and were able to recite their poem earned themselves 2,000 house points!  The children also went to french class.

Homework:  Read for 15 minutes, re-write incorrect spelling words, practice poetry and cursive page 77 - 78.

Important information:  Marked tests will be going home with the students tonight.  Please make sure they are re-writing their incorrect words ten times each.
Information about Valentine's in Venice Gala has been sent home and emailed to all parents.  This is a fun and exciting way to raise money for the school.  The children have been working hard on their performance which will be given the night of the gala (February 12th).  The St. Jude's Choir will also be giving our first performance that evening which is very exciting!  We hope to see parents and grandparents there!

Mrs. Nelson

Good afternoon!

In today's class we started off the day working on language.  The children were asked to work with opposites, identify words with similar meanings, create sentences, and practice cursive.  During math the children continued working on addition stories, and added double digit numbers (grade two).  We also read another chapter in The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe and the literature groups came together and began working on their book reports in their literature circles.  The children also had music, french and P.E classes.

Homework:  Read for 15 minutes, practice spelling words for tomorrow's test, practice poetry, cursive page 76 and math page 97 - 98.

Good afternoon!

It was nice to be back today after taking a day off to be sick yesterday.  I was feeling much better and happy to get back to it!  We started off the day today with a math period.  The children worked on creating stories with numbers, pictures or words, worked on their addition and subtraction and continued to use 1/4 fractions.  During language the children worked towards proofreading sentences and created their own sentences, worked with suffixes (grade two) rhyming, ABC order, and suffixes (grade one).  We also started our first literature circle today.  We started reading The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe.  The class was broken into group with their literature roles assigned to them.  I am very excited to begin studying this great novel!  The children also went to french and drama classes.

Homework:  Read for 15 minutes, practice spelling words, practice poetry, math page 95 - 95, Language page 77 - 78, and Letters and Sounds page 65 - 66.

Important information: Please make sure that your children are continuing to read every night and recording their progress in their chart.  The more they read, the better they will be at reading.  The better they are at reading, the more they will enjoy it!

Mrs. Nelson

Good afternoon!

In today's class the children started off the day by recording the new weekly spelling words and working on their spelling books.  This week's spelling words are a review (for the grade twos), so it is a great opportunity to make sure that all the tests and practicing have been paying off!  We continued on the day by working on math.  The grade ones worked on counting and adding, where the grade twos worked on completing number stories.  During language the children worked on proofreading, suffixes, beginning sounds of words, and practiced cursive.  During social studies the children presented their culture brochures to the class.  They were very interesting and informative!  The children also went to french and art classes.

Homework:  Read for 15 minutes, practice weekly spelling words, practice poetry, Letters and Sounds page 63 - 64, math page 81 (grade one) 93 (grade two).

Important information:  The marked rubrics for the social studies assignment are going home with your children tonight.  Unfortunately a few children forgot their brochures and could not present.  These will have to be done tomorrow, and their rubrics will be bought home at that time.
The final math re-test for those students requiring one will take place this Wednesday at lunch recess.
This Wednesday is casual day.

Best regards,

Mrs. Nelson
