Good afternoon!

In today's class the students started off the day with their weekly spelling tests.  Marked spelling tests will be coming home with all students tonight. I ask that all incorrect spelling words be re-written ten times each (including the bonus word).  Students also worked on practising their cursive writing where they explored pronouns and subject case during language today.

In our Unit of Inquiry today the students worked on a unit reflection.  They were asked to brainstorm, write a rough copy, and then write a good copy of a poem that highlights their thoughts, feelings and emotions about writing.  We have spent a great deal of time working on writing and exploring the writing process, so it was great to see the reflections the students had as the unit begins to come to an end.  Ask your child tonight about their poem about writing!

During mathematics today the students continued exploring the attributes of various figures.  Students had a fun time today using construction paper to create their own figures with different attributes, and then sorting their figures!  Students also worked on their multiplication tables where carrying over is necessary to find the product.

Homework: Read for 2o minutes and record in the reading log,  re-write incorrect spelling words ten times each, Abeka pages 31 - 32 and Cursive pages 44 -45.

Important information: A field trip form went home with all students last night.  This form is in regards to a free trip the grades three and four classes will be taking to Streetsville Library on November 28th.  Please see the trip form that went home with all students!

Good afternoon!

In today's class the students started off the day by working on language.  The students were asked to review various paragraphs to find their subjects, topic sentences, and supporting sentences.  Students also worked on cursive writing where they focused on identifying synonyms and antonyms.

In our Unit of Inquiry today the students completed the good copies of their summative stories!  There was so much hard work that went into these stories and the students were so proud to finally turn in their finished copies!  These good copies are now going to be turned into a class book to be shard for years to come.  Parents may choose to purchase their own copy of the class book for $23.00.  Please see the book order form sent home with all students tonight.

During mathematics today we continued on with our geometry unit.  In today’s class we continued working on congruent figures.  Students explored congruent figures and the techniques for identifying congruent figures.  Student then had a chance to draw their own figures for a friend who had to search and find the pairs of congruent figures.  They had a lot of fun with this activity!

Homework: Read for 2o minutes and record in the reading log, and practice weekly spelling words.

Good afternoon!

In today's class the students started off the day by working on Bell Work where they were asked to proofread the sentences provided to them and correctly record them in their Bell Work books.  The students have a lot of fun with this competitive activity!  I language today the students also worked on their Language books where they focused on contractions, and practiced their cursive in their cursive books.  Students also completed a Language assessment where their skills with capitals, punctuation and sentence writing were tested.

In our Unit of Inquiry today the students worked hard on their good copy versions of their stories.  A great deal of effort is going into these stories, as the students have been informed the stories will be published into a class book upon their completion!  In today's class the students completed their good copies, and began working on their dedications and 'About the Authors'.

During mathematics today we moved on with our geometry unit and began discussing congruent figures.  As a class we discussed the meaning of congruent figures, explored how to identify congruent figures, and began drawing our own congruent figures.  In tomorrow's class the students will create activities for their peers in which they draw a variety of congruent figures for their friends to identify!

The students also went to PE and French classes today.

Homework: Read for 2o minutes and record in the reading log, practice weekly spelling words and Language pages 62 - 63.

Happy Monday!

In today's class the students started off the day by copying down their weekly spelling words.  This week's words are all a review from previous weeks to see how well the words are being remembered from week to week.  During language the students also worked on reinforcing their spelling words in their Spelling Workbooks.  Students also used their journals to reflect on their weekends.  After their writing, students had a chance to share their weekends with the class.

In our Unit of Inquiry today the students were continued working on their summative project.  The students spent some time editing their rough copies, and then peer editing a friend's story before moving on to their good copy versions.  These good copy versions will soon be turned into a class book which is going to be a great deal of fun!  Ask your child tonight how their good copy is coming along!

During mathematics today we had another lesson on sorting geometric shapes using various attributes.  Once again we reviewed how we can use our knowledge of sides, parallel lines and angles to help us categorize figures.  Students were once again asked to practice these concepts in their Homework and Practice books.  During math the students also had mini quizzes based on their knowledge from their Abeka Arithmetic books.  In these timed quizzes, students are asked to see how many addition and subtraction facts they can correctly answer.  Ask your child how they did tonight!

The students also went to PE and French classes today.

Homework: Read for 2o minutes and record in the reading log, practice weekly spelling words, Spelling Workbook pages 49 - 52 and math pages 60 - 61.
