Good afternoon!

It was a lot of fun for everyone today getting to meet and perform to all the grandparents that came to visit SJA!  The children all had a great time and did a wonderful job!  They will be putting on the same performance on Arts Night which is coming up on June 1st, 2011.  I have kept their choir and play costumes here at school (unless we spoke otherwise) so that the children are all set and ready to perform the same concert on Wednesday night.  In the morning we worked on spelling and had our weekly spelling test.

Homework:  Read for 15 minutes and record in the reading chart, re-write incorrect spelling words, and Language page 169 - 170.

Have a great weekend!

Good afternoon!

We unfortunately did not have our track and field event today because of weather, but we still had a great day!  We started off the day today working on language.  The children practiced their special sounds, wrote stories and created sentences.  They also answered some questions about their grandparents in the spirit of tomorrow's concert!  In math today we continued on with our measurement unit.  The children estimated the length of things, and then measured them.  They also graphed their results in a bar graph which was a great review of our graphing unit!  Today we had another whole-school rehearsal for tomorrow's play.  It went very well but we need to make sure everyone from our class knows what they are doing and when they are doing it!  The children also went to music, P.E and french classes.

Homework:  Read for 15 minutes and record in the reading chart, practice weekly spelling words for tomorrow's spelling test, Letters and Sounds page 158 - 159 and cursive page 106 - 107.

Important information:  Tomorrow is the Grandparents' Day concert!  Your children should come to school dressed in their uniforms, and then they may change into their costumes here at school.  If your child is in the choir, they must also have a yellow top and black bottoms brought with them to school to change into for the choir song.

If your child is looking for a yellow top for the choir and you are interested in purchasing one to keep, Siblings has a sale on where you can buy two tops for $6.99.  And they have yellow ones :)

The track and field event has been postponed to next Thursday, June 2nd due to today's stormy weather.

Best regards,

Mrs. Nelson

Good afternoon!

We had a great day today.  We started off the day by working on language.  The children wrote stories, practiced rhyming words, and finished sentences.  During math the children began a unit on measurement.  We discussed how to use a ruler, the differences between cms and mms, and when to use meters to measure.  Ask you child tonight to tell you what they learned about measurement!  The children also had a review of addition, subtraction and fractions.  We read another chapter of Pipi Longstocking today, which the children enjoyed.  And we had another whole-school rehearsal for the Grandparents' Day concert.  The students also went to french class.

Homework Read for 15 minutes and record in the reading chart, practice weekly spelling words, Letters and Sounds page 156 - 157 and math page 202 - 203.

Important information:  Tomorrow is the SJA track and field event.  It is happening rain or shine!  Children must come to school dressed in their gym clothes, ready to compete.  If tomorrow is not raining, we are heading outside for the entire afternoon.  This means that hats, water bottles and sun screen are very important for tomorrow!  Sun screen must be applied at home and not at school.

Friday is the Grandparent's Day concert.  Please make sure your child is practicing and ready to perform.  They were all given notices from Mrs. Deras last week about what costumes are required.  Please contact Mrs. Deras if you have any questions.

If your child is in the choir, please make sure they have a yellow top and black bottoms to wear for their choir song during the Grandparents' Day concert.  They will be able to change into it at school.

Wonderland field trip forms are due June 3rd.

Best regards,

Good afternoon!

It was very nice to get back to school today after four days away.  We started off the day today working on spelling.  The students copied down the new weekly spelling words and worked in their spelling books.  They also worked on finishing sentences in language today.  During math, the children completed the chapter on addition and subtraction sentences.  Most of the children completed their chapter review, but a few are bringing it home for homework.  We will not be having a unit test for this chapter as we completed the unit in a whole-class group and I was able to assess them daily on whether or not they are grasping the concepts.  We had another whole-school rehearsal today for the upcoming concert.  The students seemed to be doing well with their parts, but paying attention to Mrs. Deras is a big problem.  All students could work on their focusing while on stage to better enhance their performance.  The children also went to music, french and P.E classes.

Homework:  Read for 15 minutes and record in the reading chart, practice weekly spelling words, math page 176 and Letters and Sounds page 154 - 155.

Important information:  Tomorrow is casual day at St. Jude's.  Children may come to school dressed in casual clothing.

Cookies will be for sale at lunch recess for $1.

Thursday is the SJA track and field competition.

Friday is the Grandparents' Day Concert.

A field trip form went home with your child tonight about the upcoming Canada's Wonderland school trip.  Please send the completed form with a cheque or money by June 3rd.

Best regards,

Mrs. Nelson
