Good afternoon!

We had an exciting start to the school day today, as the students participated in an end-of-the-month house assembly!  The houses came together and competed in a house game which was a great deal of fun.  As a school we also celebrated the November birthday students, recognized the students that won for being Knowledgeable this month, and did a draw for prizes with the students who are part of the milk program.  It sure was a fun morning!  There is a picture of the assembly at the end of this posting.

During language today the students had their weekly spelling test.  Students are bringing home their marked spelling tests with them tonight.  Incorrect spelling words should be re-written ten times each.  Students also worked on identifying the difference between 'haven't' and 'hasn't' and 'weren't' and 'wasn't' today in a class discussion.  They worked on reinforcing these concepts in their Language books.

During mathematics today the students completed a unit review.  As a class we went through all the important concepts from this geometry unit.  The students are feeling very prepared for the next math unit test on Tuesday, December 3rd.    Students then had a chance to go back and review the major concepts in their books along with a partner.  The pairs of students worked on identifying the major concepts, summarizing them in their notebooks, and testing each other on their skills.  Find a couple pictures of the students working hard while studying at the end of this posting.

Homework: Read for 2o minutes and record in the reading log,  re-write incorrect spelling words ten times each, and math review package for Tuesday's math test!

Important information: Picture re-takes went home with students last night for those students who had their picture re-taken.

All students brought home a math review package with them earlier this week t to help them study for the math unit test coming up on Tuesday.

Parent/Teacher interviews are next Thursday, December 5th.  The interview forms went home with all students tonight to inform parents of the time they have been scheduled during the conference period.  Please keep an eye out for this important form tonight!

Term 1 report cards went home with all students tonight.  Please keep an eye out for this important document.

Have a great weekend!

Good afternoon!

We started off our day today with our trip to to the Streetsville Library!  The students had a great time listening to the book talk from the librarian.  We heard a great deal about genres and many different series of books the students were very interested in!  Students then had a chance to check out various books and genres as they explored the library.  Students also had a chance to sign out books which they very much enjoyed.  Books that were signed out today are due back to any Mississauga Library location in three weeks from today.  There are a few pictures posted at the end of today's message of the students at the library for you to enjoy!

When we returned to class, the students used their agenda to reflect on their trip, write a summary, and discuss their favourite part of the trip!

During mathematics today the students used newspapers to find various shapes and figures in everyday structures.  The students had a lot of fun with this activity!  They also got a chance to make their own structures out of materials from around the classroom.  Students then were asked to describe the attributes of their structures and draw an illustration of it.  See some pictures below of the students having fun with this activity.   For homework tonight, students are asked to work on the review package that went home with them last night.  We are having out next math unit test Tuesday, December 3rd.  All students brought home their math review package with them last night.  This package is to be used to review and study for this unit test at home.  It will be a compliment to the review and studying for the unit test we will be doing in class together.

Homework: Read for 2o minutes and record in the reading log,  practice weekly spelling words, and math pages 72 - 73.

Important information: Picture re-takes went home with students last night for those students who had their picture re-taken.

Good afternoon!

In today's class the students started off the day by working on language.  As a class we discussed the differences between 'it' 'are' and 'its'.  The students worked on reinforcing this discussion in their Language books.

In our Unit of Inquiry today the students worked hard on a comprehension activity all about Hanukkah.  Tonight is the first night of Hanukkah, so as a class we explore important aspects of this holiday such as the dreidel, oil, the menorah, and the foods that are eaten during this celebration.  The students were very interested in hearing about this holiday.  The students then used their story writing abilities to write a fictional story about a child about to begin celebrating Hanukkah.  There were a lot of great stories created with the learning that had been done.

During mathematics today the students continued exploring the attributes of various figures.  In today's class the students began exploring the nets of various solid figures.  They explored nets to see what figures could be created from then, and then drew their own nets for their favourite solid figures.  The students are coming along very well in this unit.  I can tell students are already very well prepared for the math unit test we will be having next Tuesday, December 3rd.  All students are bringing home a math review package with them tonight.  This package is to be used to review and study for this unit test at home.  It will be a compliment to the review and studying for the unit test we will be doing in class together.  Please keep your eye out for this review package tonight.

Homework: Read for 2o minutes and record in the reading log,  practice weekly spelling words, and Language pages 64 - 65.

Important information: We are heading out on the field trip to the Streetsville Library tomorrow!  The bus is leaving at 9:15 sharp.  Unfortunately we will not be able to accommodate late students on the trip.

An order form for our class book of short stories went home with all children.  This book can be ordered and taken home by students for $23.00.  The purchase of the book is optional.   Please have the form completed and sent in by tomorrow if your child is interested in purchasing the book.

Picture re-takes went home with students tonight who had their picture re-taken.

Happy Tuesday!

In today's class the students started off the day by working on language.  As a class we discussed the proper format for writing instructions, and the reasons we write instructions.  We explored various sets of instructions, and then the students took a turn writing their own instructions of how to play a game of their choice.  Students also worked on cursive writing where they practised possessive pronouns.

In our Unit of Inquiry today the students had a real treat!  Cecile Marie, the author of Dear Doxie Dallas, came to the school to share her stories with the students!  The students had a wonderful time listening to the stories, asking her questions and relating her answers back to their own learning about story writing from this past unit.  This was a great way to put the learning we have been doing over the last weeks into action!  After the book talk, students had the opportunity to buy her book and get their copy autographed which the students very much enjoyed.  Please see a couple pictures from the author talk at the end of this posting.  When we returned to class, the students used their journals to reflect on what they learned from the author talk, and their favourite part of the session.  Ask your child tonight what they wrote about!

During mathematics today the students continued exploring the attributes of various figures.  In today's class we continued exploring the faces, edges and vertices of solid figures.  The students were then asked to sort solid figures based on these attributes.  I can really see the learning coming along in this unit which is great to see!  In their Abeka Arithmetic books the students also worked on multiplication, word problems and addition and subtraction.

Homework: Read for 2o minutes and record in the reading log,  practice weekly spelling words, Abeka pages 35 - 36, Cursive pages 46 -47, and math pages 68 - 69.

Important information: A field trip form went home with all students last week.  This form is in regards to a free trip the grades three and four classes will be taking to Streetsville Library on November 28th.  Please see the trip form that went home with all students!  The signed form is due by tomorrow if your child is going to come on the trip with us.

An order form for our class book of short stories went home with all children.  This book can be ordered and taken home by students for $23.00.  The purchase of the book is optional.   Please have the form completed and the monies sent to school by Wednesday, November 28th, 2013.
