Good afternoon!

We started off the day today by working on language.  The children worked on the difference between 'learn' and 'teach', answered riddles, determined opposites, created sentences and identified special sounds.  During math the children worked on measurement, addition and subtraction, and place value.  We also read chapter 8 of The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe and worked on that chapter of our book study in our literature groups. The children had free time in the computer labs today where they played on either pbskids.org or kidsnumbers.com.  They also went to french class.

Homework:  Read for 15 minutes and record in the reading chart, Letters and Sounds page 82 - 83, math page 119, and complete book study chapter 8 if necessary.

Important information:  The math re-test was completed at lunch recess today.  The marked re-tests will be going home with your child this evening.

On Tuesday, March 1st St. Jude's Academy is having our annual pancake eating contest in the morning.  All children will be competing in their houses.  If there are any allergy concerns that may prohibit your child from participating please let me know by Monday.

Have a great weekend!

Good afternoon!

In today's class we started off the day by working on language.  The children were asked to work on suffixes, root words, proofreading and creating sentences.  During math we worked on a review of telling time, counting money, hundreds place and tallying.  In social studies we continued working on our assignment about Canada, where the children are responsible for recording facts, words and illustrations they have learned about Canada.  The children also went to music, french and P.E classes.

Homework:  Read for 15 minutes and record in the reading chart, Language page 96 - 97, and get the math test signed if you have not already.

Important information:  The math tests that were signed have been noted by myself, and sent back home with your child tonight.  Students who are writing the math re-test tomorrow will need these tests to help them study for the test.

The math re-test is taking place tomorrow at lunch recess for those who scored 84% or less on their test yesterday.

Best regards,

Mrs. Nelson

Good afternoon!

In today's class we started off the day by having our school-wide speech/poetry competition.  All the children at St. Jude's did very well today, and I am pleased to announce that in our class we had Alex and Shannon as 1st place winners, Jessica in 2nd place and Temi in 3rd place.  Congratulations again to all our winners!  When the competition was over we came back to our classroom and worked on language.  The children worked on rhyming, root words, opposites, word meanings and creating sentences.  During math the children wrote their math unit test for our forth unit.  In social studies we began an assignment describing, illustrating and writing about Canada.  The children also went to french and drama classes.

Homework:  Read for 15 minutes and record in the reading chart and Letters and Sounds page 89 - 90 (grade 1) page 80 - 81 (grade 2).

Important information:  The marked math tests will be going home with your children tonight.  Children who scored 84% or less have the ability to write a re-test.  The re-test will take place this Friday at lunch recces.

Please sign the math test and send it back with your child tomorrow so I know they have been seen at home.

Good afternoon!

Welcome back after a nice, long weekend with your families!

We started off the day today by chatting about our Family Day weekends.  The children shared what they did over the weekends, and we drew pictures to hang in the hallway.  Come walk by our door when you are stopping by the school to check out the artwork!  We continued on with the day by having a review period in math.  The chapter review sheets were taken up, and any last minute questions were answered before tomorrow's math unit test.  The review sheets will be coming home again with your child tonight to give them a chance to review the concepts they had trouble with today in our review period.  During language we read another chapter of The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe and the children discussed it in their literature circles and worked on their book study.  The children also went to music, french and P.E classes.

Homework:  Read for 15 minutes and record in the reading chart, practice poetry if you are one of the ones competing tomorrow, cursive pages 85 - 86 and book study chapter seven.

Important information:  Our class is not having weekly spelling words this week.  It is a short week and I wanted to make sure that the children presenting tomorrow had enough time to prepare.  We will continue with our spelling words next week.

Tomorrow's school-wide poetry/speech competition will take place at 9:15am.  Any parents and families that are interested in attending are welcome to do so!  Please see Mrs. Deras' blog for tips for the children who are presenting.

Tomorrow is casual day.

Tomorrow is our math unit test.

Best regards,

Mrs. Nelson
