Good afternoon!

It was a beautiful day today for Track and Field!  The children had a lot of fun participating in the various events, as well as the teachers and volunteers.  At the beginning of the day today we had our weekly spelling test.  The children are bringing home their marked spelling tests with them tonight.  We also worked on special sounds and riddles in language.  During math we worked on directions.  The children followed directions, and made directions for their friends to follow.  It was a fun way to practice this important skill.  It was a very fun Friday!

Homework:  Read for 15 minutes and record in the reading chart.

Important information:  Today was the last day that uniforms needed to be worn at St. Jude's.  From now on children may come to school wearing casual clothing, except to Canada's Wonderland where they have to wear their gym uniforms.  If you are selling the gym uniforms at the used-uniform-sale, then please send your children to Canada's Wonderland wearing a gray t-shirt and navy pants or shorts.

Best regards,

Mrs. Nelson

Good afternoon!

It was so great to see everyone out last night for the Arts Night concert.  It went very well and we were very proud of all of our students!  We started off the day working on language.  The children worked on rhymes, special sounds and root words.  During math the children worked on the concept of symmetry.  We had a lot of fun cutting out shapes to experiment with symmetry, folded shapes to see where we could find symmetry, and drew in the other halves of shapes to make symmetry.  Ask your child tonight to tell you what they learned!  In history today we read about the beginning of Christianity and read and coloured a story-line.  The children also went to music, french and P.E classes.

Homework:  Read for 15 minutes and record in the reading chart, practice weekly spelling words for tomorrow's spelling test,  cursive page 110 - 111 and Makes Makes Sense page 226 - 227.

Important information:  Tomorrow is the Track and Field event at SJA.  Please make sure your children are coming to school with water bottles, hats and are wearing sun screen as we are going to be outside tomorrow for the entire afternoon.

Canada's Wonderland forms need to be sent in by Friday (tomorrow) if your children are coming on the trip.

The last week of school (June 6th - 10th) is a casual week.  This is so that parents can wash and prepare any uniforms that they would like to sell in the used-uniform-sale next Wednesday night.

Mrs. Nelson

Good afternoon!

We had a great day today!  We started off the day by working on language.  The children worked on special sounds and cursive.  In math we had our measurement quiz, which went really well!  I was very pleased with the results, and am happy to see that the students are coming out of the unit with new found skills.  The marked tests will be coming home with your children tonight.  After the quiz we continued working with 2-D shapes.  The children solved problems using 2D shapes.  It was a fun way to see what they know about counting the sides and vertices of various shapes.  We had our final rehearsal today in preparation for Arts Night tonight.  The concert is running very well and the children are all very excited about everyone seeing it tonight!  They also went to french class.

Homework:  Read for 15 minutes and record in the reading chart, practice weekly spelling words, Letters and Sounds page 166 - 168, Math Makes Sense page 220 - 222 and cursive page 108 - 109.

Important information:  The Arts Night concert is taking place tonight.  Please make sure your children are back at SJA by 6:30 dressed in either their choir costume or their Pied Piper costume.  Choir students need to bring their Pied Piper costume in a bag to change into after our performance.

Friday is the SJA Track and Field event.  Please make sure your children come wearing sun screen, and are bringing water bottles and hats with them so they can be comfortable outside all afternoon.

The last week of school (June 6th - 10th) is a casual week.  Students do not have to wear their uniforms to school, except on the Canada's Wonderland trip when they will be wearing gym clothes.

Mrs. Nelson

Good afternoon!

We had a nice day today.  We started off the day today working on language.  The children worked on special sounds and rhyming.  During math the children worked on 2D shapes.  We identified them, compared them, and drew pictures with them.  We then had a whole-school rehearsal for The Pied Piper.  The big performance is tomorrow night (Arts Night) so it was nice to have another whole-school practice session today.  The children also went to music, P.E and french.

Homework:  Read for 15 minutes and record in the reading chart, practice weekly spelling words, Letters and Sounds page 163 - 165, Math Makes Sense page 216 - 217, practice for the measurement quiz tomorrow.

Important information:  Please see my posting from yesterday about the measurement quiz we are having tomorrow.  I posted study tips for the children to work on tonight.

For Arts Night tomorrow night the children need to come to school at 6:30 dressed in their Pied Piper costumes ready to perform.  The only exception are the children in the choir who will come dressed in their yellow tops and black bottoms and will bring their Pied Piper clothing to change into after our choir performance.

The Track and Field event is taking place this Friday, June 3rd.  Please make sure your children come to school in gym clothes and bring water bottles, hats and are wearing sun screen as we will be outside the entire afternoon.

All of next week is going to be a casual week at St. Jude's so families have time to wash and prepare any uniforms they would like to sell on Graduation Night.  All students do need to come dressed in their gym uniforms for the Canada's Wonderland trip though.

We are going to have an end of the year party on June 10th.  If anyone would like to send in treats for the class please feel free!

Best regards,

Mrs. Nelson

Good afternoon!

It was a good day today!  We started off the day today by working on spelling.  The children copied down their new weekly spelling words and worked in their spelling workbooks.  During language they also worked on suffixes, and we read another chapter of Pipi Longstocking.  After we read the chapter they worked on a response in their language books.  During math the children worked on the final pages of the measurement unit we have been working on for the last few weeks.  On Wednesday we are going to have a math quiz for the measurement unit we have just completed.  It is going to be a review to make sure that the main concepts have been grasped by all students.  Ideas such as how to measure something using centimeters, how to decide when to use centimeters and when to use meters, and how to estimate the length of objects will be tested.  The children also went to french class.

Homework:  Read for 15 minutes and record in the reading chart, practice weekly spelling words, Letters and Sounds page 160 - 162, math page 204 - 205 and complete language response if necessary.

Important Information:  Track and Field has been postponed until Friday, June 3rd, 2011.  Some students from SJA are going to be away at a soccer tournament on the 2nd, so the Track and Field event was pushed back to make sure that everyone can participate.

This Wednesday is Arts Night at SJA.  All children need to be back at school by 6:30 at the latest to get ready for the event.  I am going to send home the children's costumes with them tonight so that they can come dressed in their costumes that evening.  Children who are in choir need to come dressed in their yellow tops and black pants and then they will change into their Pied Piper clothing after we have sang our choir song.  The choir is going to perform before the Pied Piper for this concert.  All other children need to come to school dressed in their Pied Piper costumes (see Mrs. Deras' blog or the sheet that was sent home if you need to be reminded of costumes).

The last week of school (June 6th - June 10th) will be a casual week at SJA.  Students do not need to pay $2 to dress casually.

Best regards,

Mrs. Nelson
