Good afternoon!

We had a great spirit day today!  It was nice to see all the children in grades one and two come to school in their house colours to support their team.  As a school we played some fun house activities together, which was a great time.
In today's class we had our first spelling test.  Your child will come home with their marked test.  I ask that any words that were misspelled be written out ten times in their spelling books and brought back to class Monday morning.  We also practiced our numbers, read about the Babylonians, practiced cursive, and had french class.

Homework:  Read for 15 minutes each night and record in your reading chart, complete the rough copy of our science project using the information sheet provided, finish cursive pages 12 - 13 for grade two and 14 - 15 for grade one and complete their journal entry on the codes of Hammurabi if needed.

Important information:  A form has gone home with your child tonight about the Terry Fox run taking place next Friday.  If you would like to donate please fill out the form.  Last year St. Jude's came third place in donations out of every school in Ontario!  I also sent home completed work with your child in their home folder.  Please take a look through to see all the hard work your child has done so far this year!  This work can be kept at home, and does not need to come back to school.  Lastly, your child has also brought home Scholastic ordering forms with them.  If you would like to order any books or products for your child please send a cheque in with your child's order form by the 24th of September.

Have a great weekend,

Mrs. Nelson

Good afternoon!

In today's class we continued working on our science projects.  The children were all given write-ups on their chosen animals and we were to pick out relevant information and transfer it onto their rough copy worksheets under the appropriate category.  We also continued working on our cursive writing, number practice, vowels and sentence construction. The children also had P.E, music and french classes.

Homework:  read for 15 minutes and record in reading chart, practice spelling for our first spelling test tomorrow morning, and complete cursive writing.

Important information:  Tomorrow is spirit day, so children can come dressed in their house colours.  Agendas have gone home with your child tonight.  Please review the homework and notes, sign the agenda and send it back with your child daily.

Best regards,

Mrs. Nelson

Good afternoon!

In today's class we began work on our first science project of the year.  All the children picked an animal of their choice, and we began researching them.  This research will eventually turn into a written project and presentation.  Each child has been given a rubric to explain to them the expectations of the assignment, which I encouraged them to share with their parents.  In addition to science, the children also worked on patterning, cursive writing, and vowels.  They also attended french and drama classes.

Homework for tonight:  15 minutes of reading to be recorded on their sheets, cursive writing if it needs to be completed, and spelling practice for the quiz on Friday.

Important information:  Reminder that spirit day is this Friday.  If your child comes dressed in their house colours they will win themselves points!  Also, agendas have just arrived in the school this afternoon and will be sent home with your child starting tomorrow night.  These will be hand written by your child with their homework for the evening, and brought back and forth with them every night.  I would appreciate a signature in the agenda from a parent to ensure that your child is keeping you up-to-date with what work needs to be accomplished.

Best regards,

Mrs. Nelson

Good afternoon.  In today's class we worked on addition, ordinal numbers, sorting and patterning and the first Jewish people.  The children also had gym, french and music classes, which they enjoyed.

Homework for tonight:  Read for 15 minutes, practice weekly spelling words, math work if not completed in class, and their picture of Joseph and his colourful coat if not completed in class.

Important information:  Today was the first day of our candy store.  If you would like you child to have the opportunity to purchase candy from the store on Tuesday and Thursdays, please send them in with some change.  School uniforms need to be worn by all students by the end of the week, so please ensure that uniforms are being sorted out with your child.  Mme. Stella would like each child to come to school with two red doutangs with metal grasping tabs in the middle to be used for french as soon as possible.  Lastly, on Friday we are having our first spirit day.  Children who come to school dressed in their 'house' colours receive house points for their effort!

Best regards,

Mrs. Nelson
