Good afternoon!

We started off our day today working in our math books.  The children practiced place value, adding and subtracting double digits, carrying over digits, greater than and less than (grade two) and counting by ones, twos and fives (grade ones).  In language the children worked on adding prefixes to words, identifying words with prefixes in a sentence, creating sentences using words with prefixes (grade two), unscrambling sentences, proofreading, and rhyming (grade one).  The children also had time to practice their poetry.  They were asked to read over their poems a few times to identify their favourite verse.  They were then asked to copy their favourite verse into their journals and draw a picture about it.  In social science the children had their last work period to complete their culture brochure.  Most children completed theirs, but a few will be bringing home their brochures to complete.  The children also went to french and drama classes.

Homework:  Read for 15 minutes and record in the reading chart, practice weekly spelling words, practice poetry, math page 83, and complete culture good copy if necessary.

Important information:  The oral presentations for the culture assignment are going to take place this coming Monday (Jan 24th).  Once I collect all the completed brochures tomorrow, I will assess them and send them back home tomorrow evening.  This way the students will have them available to rehearse and practice their presentation for Monday.

Please help remind your child to bring their poems back to school with them in the mornings.  During free time they will be encouraged to practice reciting their poems to help them with memorization.

The math re-test will be taking place this Friday at lunch recess for those students who missed the test, or require a re-do.

Best regards,

Mrs. Nelson
