Good afternoon!

I hope everyone is enjoying the snow today!  We started off the day today by working on language. The students practiced their proofreading skills and added suffixes and prefixes to root words.  We also read a book about a girl who hates reading, but eventually realized its magical benefits.  In math the children once again worked with money.  Today we made prices of different items to 'sell' (grade one) and we used trial and error methods to properly combine coins together to make various amounts using only a specific number of coins (grade two).  In social studies we discussed the purpose of media and brochures once again.  The children got a chance to look over some real life brochures that I have collected as examples.  The children also began working on their good copies of their culture brochures.  Many of the children got a great start on their brochures today!  They also went to french and drama classes.

Homework:  Read for 15 minutes and record in the reading chart, practice weekly spelling words, math pages 69 - 70, Language pages 70 - 71, and finish the rough copies of the culture assignment if necessary.

Important information:  Tomorrow is gym day.  Scholastic book order forms are due this Friday (14th) if you are looking to purchase anything for your child.
On Friday we will be continuing with the final round of show-and-tell with the students who did not present last week.  Jewel, Abel, Shannon, Alex, Klara and Nathan will present.
Next Tuesday we will be having our next math unit test on Time, Temperature and Money.  The children will be bringing home a review sheet with them on Friday to work on over the weekend to help them review the concepts they have developed in this unit.

Best regards,

Mrs. Nelson
