Good afternoon!

We had a great first day back today from the holidays.  The children all seemed very well rested, and like me they seemed excited to get back to school!
We started off the day today by gathering in a group on the carpet and shared stories about the holidays with each other.  The children all took turns filling us in on what they all did over the holidays which was very interesting to hear.  Once the stories were told the students copied down the new weekly spelling words, and worked in their spelling books.  The children also worked on spelling words that have vowels paired with the letter 'y' and practiced their cursive.  In social studies we began a new project exploring cultures.  The children have all begun researching the culture their family belongs to or comes from and will eventually turn their research into a brochure to present to the class.  Today the children showed what they already know about their family's culture, and tomorrow we will begin doing our research.
The children also went to music, french and P.E classes.

Homework:  Read for 15 minutes, practice weekly spelling words, Letters and Sounds page 56, and cursive page 68 - 69.

Important information:  Please note that the culture project is not for homework at this point.  Some students accidentally brought it home, but it does not need to be completed.  Additional research will be done at school in the days to come.

Best regards,

Mrs. Nelson
