Happy Friday!

The grade three students had another great day working along with Ms. Barber, who was in teaching our class again today.

The students started off the day working on reading in French with the grade eights. After that, students completed our weekly spelling test. Their spelling booklets are coming home with each student that needs to re-write incorrect spelling words ten times each over the weekend if they didn't get a chance to complete their corrections in class.

During our Unit of Inquiry time today the students continued on with our exploration of pioneers.  In today's class the students reviewed what they already know about pioneers (why they came to North America, how they built their homes, what their homes looked like,  what animal products and by products were used for in their daily lives).  In today's class the students completed the section on methods pioneers used for farming animals.  They also completed an entry in their 'Pioneer A-Z Dictionary'.  The entries are specific and include new terms directly related to their learning in this Unit of Inquiry. By the end of the unit each student will have their very own dictionary of definitions and illustrations all about pioneer life. This dictionary can be used to compare and contrast differences between Pioneers and our modern lifestyle.
The students had a great time working on an art project today where they were able to solidify the concepts they have previously learned about magnetic forces.  In today's class we reviewed the concepts that have been learned to date about magnets and their properties.  Students then had a chance to get creative and use magnets to creative individualized artwork!  Ask them about their fantastic works of art!

Students also went to Art, PE and French classes.

Homework: Read for 20 minutes and record in the reading log, Math (A Becka) pages 61 - 62, and re-write incorrect spelling words 10 times.
Important information:  Our class will be heading to Black Creek Pioneer Village next Tuesday!  Students are asked to dress in their gym clothes for this class trip.  Students are asked to check the weather reports carefully before school that day, as we will be spending a good portion of the trip outdoors, rain or shine.  So please make sure your child is dressed appropriately.  The bus will be leaving SJA at 9:15 sharp and will be returning back to school for normal afternoon dismissal.

Friday, February 14th is a PD Day at SJA.  There will be no school for students.

Monday, February 17th is Family Day.  There will be no school for students.

Student Council will continue selling Candy Grams for Valentine's Day until Wednesday of next week.  The cost is $0.25 per gram.  Students will get to send a note and a Hershey kiss.   Candy Grams will be sold until the 12th of February and then delivered to the students on February 13th in their classes.

Please see the flyer I posted yesterday about the Oral Competition!  I hope all children are having a great time practising their poems at home in preparation for the in-class competition on Feb. 20th!  This is the day we will have our 3 students chosen to compete in the school competition!

St. Jude's Academy's Annual Gala Dinner is approaching and it is sure to be an evening of fun and entertainment for friends and families alike!  Mark your calenders for this event which takes place on February 22nd at 6:00pm at the Sagan Banquet Hall.  The theme for this year's Gala is 'Legends of the World' which will be reflected in the buffet diner, and the short musical performance by St. Jude's students.  A silent action, raffle tickets and a 50/50 draw will also help add to the excitement of the night. Tickets for the event are $75 for adults and $10 for children.
