Good afternoon!

We started off the day working in the computer lab.  The children worked on their keyboard and mouse skills which they really enjoyed!  Upon returning to class we worked on phonics.  The children explored special sounds, opposites, picture words and completed cursive.  In our IB unit of inquiry today we continued working on our seasons wheel.  Some students felt they were ready to move on to their good copies, where some students are finishing their final facts on their rough copies.  I was stressing the importance of proofreading today, especially on important assignments such as this.  Taking your time and reviewing your work before you hand it in to be assessed is an important skill that our students will use throughout their lifetime, so please help me reiterate this tonight at home.  During math today the students worked on order and placement (grade one) and number lines (grade two).  They also went to french and P.E classes.

Homework:  Read for 15 minutes and record in the reading chart, practice weekly spelling words, cursive pages 44 - 45, math pages 80 - 81 (grade one) and Letters and Sounds pages 56 - 57.

Important information:  Please see my posting from last night to see a copy of the rubric that is going to be used to assess the seasons wheel.  Each student has been given a list of vocabulary words that I expect to see inputted into each season appropriately.  We spoke about the rubric in length today, but it also helps for them to review at at home.

If your child is in choir and would like to practice this year's Christmas concert song, you can find the song played at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B5W8VlUE88U and you can also find a print out of the lyrcis at http://www.lyricsmania.com/its_the_most_wonderful_time_of_the_year_lyrics_amy_grant.html.

Just as a reminder, the last day of school before the Christmas holidays is on December 16th.  This day is a half day which means that the children will be ready to be picked up at noon.

Best regards,

Mrs. Nelson
