Bonjour!

We started off the day with our weekly spelling tests.  The marked spelling tests will be coming home with each student tonight.  After spelling the students worked on language where they practiced root words, suffixes, special sounds and vowel sounds.  They also practiced their cursive.  In our IB unit of inquiry the students completed their seasons wheels.  The wheels turned out great and were full of a great deal of important facts, vocabulary and information that has been learned in this unit!  We also began reading a new book together as a class- Charlotte's Web.  At the end of the day we had time to continue watching The Water Horse, which was a nice way to lead into the weekend.  They also went to drama class today.

Homework:  Read for 15 minutes and record in the reading chart, re-write incorrect spelling words ten times each, Letters and Sounds pages 60 - 61 and cursive pages 48 - 49.

Important information:  Please see my posting from earlier in the week for links to this year's Christmas choir song.  If your child is in the choir and would like extra time to practice at home, these links will be useful.

In my post yesterday I also gave links to cursive worksheets you can print off and use at home.  Starting on December 1st, all writing that is done must be completed in cursive.  If your child is finding issues with any cursive letters, please use these printable worksheets as a way for them to practice at home.

Report cards are coming home with every child tonight.  These report cards are different than previous years due to our new IB status.  Please take the time to review the report cards, and fill out the section entitled 'Parent's Comments.  This is a section for you to provide SJA with feedback about the curriculum, the assessments, and the new method of reporting.  Please keep your eye out for the report cards tonight!

On Monday we are beginning our next IB unit of inquiry-  How the World Works.  There is a central idea that will guide the learning in this unit.  The central idea is 'Everything that happens is a result of using some sort of energy'.  There are three lines of inquiry that will help us direct our learning in this unit, (1) type of energy (2) uses of energy (3) energy and the environment.  I am very excited to begin this new unit with the students on Monday!

Have a safe weekend,

Mrs. Nelson
