Good afternoon!

We had a great day today.  We had a lot of fun together and got a lot accomplished!  We started off the day today by working on language.  The children worked in their journals, worked on story writing, and sentence construction, proofreading, vowel sounds and special sounds.  During math the children worked on a review of addition and subtraction and roman numerals.  In science today we continued on with our life cycles unit.  Today the children began studying the life cycles of animals. It was a lot of fun!  We spoke about chickens, fish, butterflies and humans.  Ask your child tonight to tell you what they learned.  We watched a neat video of the real-life hatching of a chicken egg.  If you are interested in seeing it again tonight you can go to this link:  http://www.msichicago.org/online-science/videos/video-detail/activities/the-hatchery/  The children also went to music, french and P.E.

Homework:  Read for 15 minutes and record in the reading chart, practice weekly spelling words, Language page 144 - 145, math page 177 - 178, and 'This Is My Life Cycle' assignment and presentation due on Friday.

Important information:  Skate-a-thon money can be turned in until May 6th (this Friday).  Please make sure to have all funds collected and submitted by that time.  We still haven't met the $7000 goal, but we hope to do so by this Friday!  Also, the prizes will be awarded at that time!  Very exciting!

The Scholastic book order forms and money are due by Friday if anyone is interested in purchasing anything.

The final math re-test for the 3D geometry unit will be taking place tomorrow at lunch recess for those children who still need to re-take the test.

I am sending home a take-home science project.  In this assignment the class has been asked to go home and find out about themselves.  They have questions they need to answer about how they have moved through their own life cycles so far.  Please help your child answer these questions.  There is a space at the bottom where photos can be attached.  These photos will be returned upon completion.  The assignment is due this Friday.  A presentation to the class on their personal life cycle will be completed on Friday.

Progress reports will be coming home on Friday of this week.

Best regards,

Mrs. Nelson

Here are some pictures I had taken while the class worked on their paper mache masks!
