Good afternoon!

In today's class we started off the day by receiving the new weekly spelling words.  The children also worked in their spelling books.  In math, the children worked on estimating times by timing themselves doing various activities, such as saying the alphabet and putting on their jackets.  In language the children worked on contractions, suffixes, reviewed their cursive, and listened to more of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.  In history we read about the people of ancient America, and coloured a map of the Americas.  The children also went to french and art classes.

Homework:  Read for 15 minutes and record in the reading chart, practice spelling words, finish cursive pages 62 - 63 (grade one) 61 - 62 (grade two), finish colouring the map of Americas.

Important information:  Please see my blog from last week about the Christmas concert.  Mrs. Deras is looking for props and costumes that she would like the children to start bringing into school.  Our class needs to have a set of pjs, a plastic set of antlers to wear, slippers and a robe (optional).  Our class' scene also requires a small tree and presents underneath it.  If anyone would like to lend a small Christmas tree they have at home that would be great.  We are also looking for empty boxes to be wrapped up as 'presents' to be used as props.  If anyone is able to bring those is that would be great.  Please have a look at Mrs. Deras' blog tonight as there is much more information provided for you.
The junior students at St. Jude's are putting on Romeo and Juliet this Thursday night in the school's auditorium.  The play is free of charge and we are encouraging families to attend.  If your child attends the play, not only will they see a great show, but they will also earn their house 2,500 house points!
This Friday is our ROM trip.  Students need to come dressed in their full uniforms and have a lunch to be eaten at the ROM.

Best regards,

Mrs. Nelson
