Good afternoon!

It was great to get back to school today after a four day weekend.  I hope everyone enjoyed their long weekend with good food and fun times with loved ones.

In our  language period today the students started off with spelling where they copied down the new weekly spelling words and worked in their spelling workbooks.  Today's spelling lesson focused on spelling words that contained long U and long O sounds.  The students then moved on to journal writing where they reflected on their long weekends in their journals.  The students had a chance to share their journal entries out loud to the class.  It was nice to hear all the stories of fun and food that the students wrote about.  We also had a chance to read more of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory today.  After we did the class read aloud, the students broke off and reflected on the chapters in their literature groups.
In our Unit of Inquiry today the students continue working on their community research project. Students got back into their pairs and began working on their good copies.  Students had a lot of fun turning the rough copy work they have been working so hard on into a good copy. The pairs of students added written work and pictures into their good copies.  Towards the end of the week the students will have a chance to present their projects to the class. These finished projects will be marked with a rubric which the students have a copy of.
During math today the children worked with number sentences.  They used the knowledge they have gained in the numeration unit to date to complete number sentences using addition or subtraction rules.  Students will bring home their Homework and Practice book home with them tonight to continue working on their reinforcement activity.

The students also went to PE and French classes today.

Homework: Read for 2o minutes and record in the reading log, practice weekly spelling words, Math pages 36 - 37 and Language pages 28 - 29.

Important information:  Students who scored an 84% or less on their math unit test were asked to write a math re-test at lunch today.  Marked unit re-tests will be coming home with the students who wrote the test shortly.
