Happy Monday!

The students started off today by copying down the new weekly spelling words and working in their spelling books.  The grade ones focused on 'y' vowel words where the grade twos focused on words with vowel pairs.    In our IB unit of inquiry today we started our brand new (and last) unit.  The central idea for this unit is 'Our planet is made up of living things with varying needs and characteristics'.  For our first activity of this unit, the students were asked to reflect and report on the question ' What does the environment mean to you?".  There were a lot of interesting answers submitted which made this a very fun first activity!  The students also wrote weekend summaries in their journals to practice the important skill of reflecting and summarizing.  During math today the children worked on sorting data using multiple attributes (grade one) and adding sides to make various shapes (grade two).   They also went to French and P.E classes.

Homework:  Read for 15 minutes and record in the reading chart, practice weekly spelling words,  Jump Math page 186 - 187 and cursive page 187.

Important information:  Miss. Elliott's class is having another Hot Dog Sale this Thursday.  Hot dog forms have gone home with all the children tonight.  If you are interested in purchasing a hot dog (beef, halal chicken or veggie) for $2 for your child, please send in the form and money by Wednesday.

This Wednesday Miss. Elliotts's class is having an Anything and Everything Sale at both recesses.  This sale is similar to a garage sale where a variety of items such as games, toys and clothing are going to be sold starting at 50 cents.  This has been a VERY popular sale in the past with a lot of great items bring sold.  If you would like your child to participate, please send money with them on Wednesday.

The French Cafe is taking place this Friday from 12 - 3pm at SJA.  All friends and family are welcome to attend this event.  Grandparents are especially welcome to attend, as this event is taking the place of the traditional Grandparent's Day concert. A light lunch will be served.  Details for the children's costumes can be found on Mme. Stella's blog.  I am still waiting for a number of families to RSVP: Adi. Angela, Dumeir, Emerald, Lukas, Seanna, Sofia, Zuri, and Adam.

Information for SJA Summer Camps are now available.  SJA offers a range of camps over the summer months with a variety of themes ranging from karate camps, to writing camps to traditional summer camps programs.  Please contact the school for more information about these exciting programs.

If your child is part of the SJA choir, please make sure they are practicing the choir song at home.  You can find the song lyrics athttp://www.stlyrics.com/lyrics/theparenttrap/doyoubelieveinmagic.htm and play the song for them at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GKyGyH9mWHk.

Best regards,

Mrs. Nelson
