Good afternoon!

In today's class we continued working on creating number sentences (grade one) and deciphering word problems (grade two).  In language the children worked on filling in the blanks to create sentences, wrote a story about pets, and we continued working on chapter five of The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe in our literature groups.  The children also went to music, french, P.E and drama classes.

Homework:  Read for 15 minutes and record in the reading chart, practice weekly spelling words for tomorrow's spelling test, practice Valentine's Day play lines, practice poetry, Chapter Five of the novel study, and math page 109 - 110.

Important information:  As the concert is only a few days away, it is very important that the children continue to practice their lines to perfection.  Many of them still do not know their parts, and need to be prompted by Mrs. Deras.  Please make sure they are reading over their lines many times in the next two nights so they can give their best performance on Saturday.

We are doing a Valentine's Day craft tomorrow afternoon.  If you could please send in either a brown paper bag, or a large envelope with your child tomorrow morning to be decorated, that would be great.

If your child is in the choir, we are asking that they have black bottoms and a red top to wear for the concert.  If they do not have black bottoms they may wear their dark gray St. Jude's pants.

Please continue to read Mrs. Deras' blog for important information about prop and costume requirements for the Gala.

This Monday is going to be the next spirit day.  It is a 'red and white' themed spirit day, as it is occurring on Valentine's Day (it was originally scheduled for today but was moved to Monday).  We are going to have a small party in the afternoon on Monday the 14th where snacks and Valentine's Day cards may be delivered.  If you would like your child to hand something out, please send it with them on Monday.

Poetry competition is happening in our class on the 17th of February.

Best regards,

Mrs. Nelson
