Good afternoon!

We started off the day today working on a student self reflection.  This is the reflection that is included as the last page of the SJA report card.  Today the children were asked to reflect on the learning they have accomplished during Term 2, and reflect and record it for their portion of the report card.   During math today the children practiced their mental math skills.  The children were once again split into two teams and asked to complete addition and subtraction questions in their heads in a competition style.  The students have a lot of fun with this activity!  F.Y.I....our next metal math session is going to focus on odd and even numbers.  So help your child get ahead by practicing with them at home!  In our IB unit of inquiry today the students worked on making a graphic organizer of their current knowledge about structures.  The children had to organize their knowledge into three categories (1) what that know (2) what they want to know (3) what they learned.  We are going to use these graphic organizers to help guide us through our current structures unit.  During language the children practiced their cursive and we began reading a new class novel called ' Dealing with Dragons' by Patricia Wrede.  They also went to french and music classes today.

Homework:  Read for 15 minutes and record in the reading chart, practice weekly spelling words, and cursive pages 150 - 151.

Important information:  This Thursday is the next casual day at SJA.  If students have paid their money to participate they may come to school dressed in any casual clothing they would like.

I am asking that students bring in old magazines for an art project we are going to be completing on Friday.  In this project we are going to be collecting pictures of various types of structures and comparing them.  Any type of old magazines that you can send in with your child in the next few days will be appreciated.

The SJA Running Club began tonight for those students who have brought in their signed permission forms.   The club will meet every Tues, Wed and Thurs at 3:45pm.  If your child is participating, please make sure they have appropriate jackets, hats and mitts if needed for an outdoor run.  For more information please see Ms. Elliot's blog.

The French Cafe is taking place on May 4th at St. Jude's Academy.  All classes are participating for this exciting event.  Invitations with specific details will be sent out shortly.  Our class is doing a Renaissance piece for the event.  Girls are asked to come to school is fancy Renaissance themed gowns or robes, and boys are asked to come in fancy Renaissance themed attire with a tie.  For more information please see Mme. Stella's blog.

Once we return from the Easter weekend students may come to school dressed in their summer uniforms.  This means that students can wear their polo shirts with their gray pants or tunics and do not have to wear a sweater or a vest.  Students may also come to school wearing their navy SJA shorts instead of pants on gym days.

April 6th is Good Friday.  There is no school on this day.

April 9th is Easter Monday.  There is no school on this day.

Best regards,

Mrs. Nelson
