Bonjour!

We started off the day today with our weekly spelling test.  The children are bringing home their marked spelling tests with them tonight.  After spelling the children worked on language where they explored root words and suffixes and opposites.  We read two more chapters of Charlotte's Web today called The Cool of the Evening and The Egg Sack, which the children really enjoyed.  In our IB unit of Inquiry today we read another book all about energy and learned lots of interesting facts about energy.  Some of the the things we discussed were power lines, lightening, the core of the earth, volcanoes and wasting energy.   Ask your child tonight to tell you some of the facts they remember!  We also watched a Bill Nye the Science Guy video all about energy which was a lot of fun.  During math today the students worked on finding the cores of patterns (grade one) and completing word problems (grade two).  They also went to french class.

Homework:  Read for 15 minutes and record in the reading chart, re-write incorrect spelling words ten times each, cursive page76- 77 and math page 104 - 105, and Letters and Sounds page 84 - 85.

Important information:  A form went home with the students tonight regarding the next Parent Guild meeting which is taking place on January 11th, 2012.

I want to remind all parents that agendas should be read and signed each and every night.  Students will get stickers and house points for agendas that have been read and signed.  Please help me to make sure that homework is being completed and important information is being communicated.

Please speak with your child to make sure they have all the supplies they need for class.  Many children have used their pencils up, and lost/broken/used up their erasers and sharpeners.  This is causing confusion and a great deal of lost work time in the classroom as children search and borrow these item from each other.  Please take a moment to speak with your child over the weekend to get them re-stocked for the new year.

Have a great weekend,

Mrs. Nelson
