Good afternoon!

We started off the day correcting and editing sentences for house points.  This valuable skill is really coming along which has been great to see!  During language the children worked on syllables, picture words, special sounds and practicing cursive.  In our IB unit of inquiry today we read a book about the importance of the sun, and discussed how the sun is the primary part of our food chain.  Ask your child tonight to share with you what they learned about the food chain.  We also discussed how too much energy from the sun can cause a drought, and we looked at pictures of droughts from around the world.  In math the children practiced reading patterns (grade one) and subtracting with number lines (grade two).  They also went to music and french classes.

Homework:  Read for 15 minutes and record in the reading chart, practice weekly spelling words, Letters and Sounds page 68 - 69, math pages 92 - 93 (grade 1 & 2), and cursive pages 60 - 61.

Important information:  This Friday is going to be our first school-wide dress rehearsal.  All children must have their full costumes ready to go for Friday.  You may either send them to school dressed in their costumes, or they may bring it in a bag and change at school.

Our class is required to dress as angel's for the Christmas concert this year.  The children are asked to wear white, gold or silver.  In my post yesterday I stated that wings and halos are optional, but this is not the case.  WING AND HALOS ARE REQUIRED FOR EACH STUDENT.  Mrs. Deras has found wings and halos at Party Packagers for $4.99 each and has suggested this as a place to find them if they need to be purchased.  Tin foil, headbands and felt also works if you would like to make them at home.  Please speak to Mrs. Deras if you need more information or check the drama blog.  Children must have these costumes for Friday's dress rehearsal.

Children who are in the choir are asked to wear black pants and a red top for the Christmas concert.  Girls may also wear red dresses if they prefer.  Children in the choir should come to school dressed in their choir costumes the night of the concert, and then will be changing into their class costumes the night of the concert as the choir is performing first.

The days are getting colder and the children are spending 40 minutes a day outside at recesses.  Please make sure your children are coming to school dressed appropriately with hats, scarves and gloves.

The last day of school is on the 16th.  This is a half day.  Children will be ready for dismissal between 11:30 and 12:00.  After school charges will begin at 12:00 that day.

We will be having a class party on the 16th.  If your child would like to bring in any treats for the class that will be great.

Best regards,

Mrs. Nelson
