Good afternoon,

In today's class we started off the day by recording our new weekly spelling words, and working in our spelling books.  The children also worked on the sounds that 'ey' and 'ie' make, proofreading (grade two), syllables (grade one), cursive and Read Charlie and the Chocolate Factory in language.  In math the children practiced their addition and subtraction of double digit numbers and counted forwards and backwards by 2s and 5s (grade two).  Grade ones worked on counting money and counting forwards and backwards by ones and tens.  In social science the children read a story about Christmas in Russia and we discussed the cultural differences between a Canadian Christmas and a Russian Christmas.  Ask your child tonight to tell you something they learned about a Russian Christmas!

Homework:  Read for 15 minutes, practice weekly spelling words, cursive page 67, and Letters and Sounds page 54 - 55.

Important information:  Tomorrow is casual day at St. Jude's, so children may come dressed out of uniform. Wednesday we are having our dress rehearsal at Heritage Glen.  Thursday is the Christmas concert.  Friday is our Christmas party and only a half day of school.  Children may be picked up from school at noon on Friday.

Children who had picture retakes had them sent home with them tonight.

Because of Friday's party we are going to be having our spelling test on Thursday morning this week.

I have had some responses from parents about treats they will be sending in for the party on Friday.  Jaymes is bringing timbits and Jessica is bringing candy canes.  Thank you for that!

Best regards,

Mrs. Nelson
