Good afternoon!
We started off the day today by working on language. The children practiced working with compound words, suffixes, special sounds, finished sentences and worked on blue versus blew. During math the children reviewed temperature, time, place value, and working on adding double and triple digit numbers. In social students we were treated with an informative and enjoyable discussion from Mrs. Deras' about Poland. The children got to listen to music, ate treats, read books, and saw and felt various articles of clothing. It was a great way for the children to experience another culture first hand! Our class read a book together today called The Three Questions which is based on a story by Leo Tolstoy. In this story a boy learned that in life it is important to live with the intent of being good to people around you, and to always appreciate the important people in your life. This is something we are trying to promote in our class via the 'good deed contest' that your child can tell you about. They also went to music, french and P.E classes.
Homework: Read for 15 minutes and record in the reading chart, practice weekly spelling words, math page 159 and Letters and Sounds page 96.
Important information: Tomorrow is casual day at St. Jude's. It is also Wacky Hat Day for spirit week. Children may come to school dressed in their casual clothing and wearing a wacky hat.
Our next math unit test is happening this Friday. I am going to be sending the children home with their math books tomorrow to review the chapter before the test.

Good afternoon!
In today's class the students started off the day by copying down their new weekly spelling words and working in their spelling books. They also worked on their cursive, suffixes, root words, special sounds and opposites. During math we had a chapter review period to help the students get ready for their math unit test on Friday. The children went through their math books and reviewed what they have learned about surveys and graphing throughout this unit and recorded the 6 main facts they have learned. We read another chapter of The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe and the children worked on chapter 15 in their literature groups. They also went to french and art classes.
Homework: Read for 15 minutes and record in your reading chart, practice weekly spelling words, cursive page 93 - 94, math page 132 and finish book study chapter 15 if necessary.
Important information: Tomorrow is Pajama Day. Children may come to school in their pajamas if they wish. Mr. Sawatsky's class will be collecting donations for the Haiti relief fund from those who are willing to participate.
Please see Mrs. Deras' blog for important information about the upcoming play our class is involved with. Scripts went home with your child last Wednesday and should have been read over.
Our next math unit test is taking place this Friday.

Good afternoon!
We started off the day today with our weekly spelling test and worked in our spelling books. The marked spelling tests will be going home with your child tonight. The children worked on adding and subtracting two and three digit numbers, number order and word problems in math. We also read another chapter of The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe today and the children worked on chapter 14 in their literature groups. We had a chance for some art time in class today as well, which was nice. I played different types of music for the children and they were asked to sit and listen and then draw pictures of what they felt/imagined as they listened to the music. The music from Swan Lake was one of the songs they listened to and enjoyed. They also went to french class.
Homework: Read for 15 minutes and record in the reading chart, re-write incorrect spelling words 10 times each, cursive page 91 - 92 and book study chapter 14 if necessary.
Important information: Report cards for term 2 went home with your child tonight. Please have a look in their home folder for it.
Monday is Crazy Hair day at St. Jude's. Mr. Sawatsky's class will be collecting donations from the children that come to school with crazy hair for the earthquake relief in Haiti. School uniforms must still be worn.

The children played a math game using dice, and the tallied and graphed their results to show their information. We read another chapter of The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe and the children worked on chapter 13 in their literature groups. They also went to music, french and P.E classes.

Important information: Please see my post earlier this week about the special spirit days beginning next week. Monday is going to be Crazy Hair Day. The students in Mr. Sawatsky have organized these days as a way to generate a charitable donation for a Haiti relief fund.
I am still looking for old new papers for an upcoming craft in case anyone has any collected at home meant to go out on garbage day.
Next Friday, April 1st we are having our next math unit test on the data management unit we have been working on.

Good afternoon!
In today's class we started off the day by working on language. The children worked on a comprehension activity, finished sentences, and identified special sounds. During math the children continued on with the data management unit. They were asked to read data on a bar graphs and analyze the results into sentences. We had social studies today where the children continued working on their world maps. We began colouring in the major continents to identify them, and the children coloured in the countries where their classmates' families come from. The children also went to french and drama classes today.
Homework: Read for 15 minutes and record in the reading chart, practice weekly spelling words, Language page 109 - 110, Letters and Sounds page 91 - 91, and Artithmetic page 126 - 127.
Important information: Please see my posts from earlier this week about the need for volunteers to come and speak to the class about life in another country. I want the children to recieve some first hand information about how life is different from "Canadian life' when you come from another country.
If anyone has any newspaper or string at home that they can send in for our crafts I am still looking to collect these items. Thank you.

As a class we read another chapter of The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe and the children worked on their book studies in their literature groups. They also went to music, french and P.E classes.
Homework: Read for 15 minutes and record in the reading chart, practice weekly spelling words, Letters and Sounds page 90, cursive page 89- 90 and book study chapter 12.
Important information: Please see my posting last night regarding a need for volunteers to speak to our class about their time living in another country and how it compares to Canada. We would love for you or someone you know to come in for a few moments for some first hand insight to the way of life in other countries.
We now have received enough boxes for our upcoming craft project. I am still requiring newspaper, string and pieces of cardboard though. If you have any of these items at home to send in with your child over the week that would be great!
Next week there have been some fun Spirit Days organized by Mr. Sawatsky's class. They are hoping that children will bring in some spare change or their allowance to participate. All proceeds will be going towards the earthquake recovery in Haiti.

Good afternoon!
It was really great to get back after such a long break away. I for one had really been looking forward to it! In today's class we started off the day by having sharing time on the carpet. The students and I all got a chance to chat about how we spent our two weeks off from school. The children then started working on spelling and language. They copied down our new weekly spelling words, and worked on contractions, prefixes, opposites and a crossword. During math we continued working on data management. The children were asked to take surveys of their friends and transfer the information they collected into graphs. In social studies we worked on maps of the world. The children labeled the continents their world maps and then marked down where their classmate's families are from. They also went to french and art classes.
Homework: Read for 15 minutes and record in the reading chart, practice weekly spelling words, math page 127 - 128, and Letters and Sounds page 88 - 89.
Important information: Many children forgot their home folders, agenda, reading charts and spelling books today. Please help your children to remember to bring them tomorrow as we use these things everyday.
I am still requesting pieces cardboard, cardboard boxes, toilet paper rolls string, and LOTS of newspaper for an upcoming craft. If you have any of these things available, please send them in for our use instead of out on garbage day. Thanks!
Beginning next week I am going to be needing volunteers to come and speak to our class about different countries around the world. I want the children to get some first hand information from people who lived in or are from other countries to get some insight into the culture and way of life of these other countries. Some things I was hoping a volunteer might share with us would be, the way school was for you in your home country, traditions your family followed, what your home was like, what food you ate, and how they compared to Canada. If you or someone you know are interested and able to come in next week for a few minutes to share your experiences with the class, please let me know in your child's agenda or via email at cnelson@stjudesacademy.com.
